App Description
ProQuantum™ Software is a specialized data analysis application designed to support high-sensitivity immunoassay workflows using ProQuantum™ protein quantitation kits. It enables researchers to process and interpret experimental data acquired from real-time qPCR instruments with robust analytical tools and guided workflows.

- Safe :This project is presented in a portfolio-safe, external-facing format.
UX Revamp Case Study
I worked as a UX Designer on the ProQuantum platform revamp at Thermo Fisher Scientific, redesigning the experience to better support lab technicians and academic scientists. The project focused on improving usability, reducing cognitive load, and aligning the product with Thero Fisher’s Komodo design system, while respecting the precision and rigor required in scientific workflows.
The Challenge
Users faced:
- Dense screens with high cognitive load
- Inconsistent patterns across workflows
- Limited guidance during critical setup steps
- A visual language that predated the Komodo design system
For scientists working under time pressure, these issues increased the risk of error and slowed adoption—especially for new or infrequent users.
The Struggle
Designing for scientific software comes with unique constraints:
Users faced:
- Users are highly knowledgeable, but not software-focused
- Errors are expensive and sometimes irreversible
- Flexibility is needed for expert users, while guidance is critical for novices
- The revamp had to align strictly with Komodo guidelines without disrupting existing workflows
Balancing usability improvements with scientific accuracy—and doing so within an established design system—was the core challenge of this project.
Research & Insights
Led end-to-end research initiatives to understand user workflows, unmet needs, and product-market fit opportunities in scientific software and life sciences solutions. Applied mixed-method research approaches to translate complex technical requirements into actionable product insights.
What We Did
- User interviews with lab technicians and academic researchers
- Workflow walkthroughs of common ProQuantum tasks
- Heuristic evaluation against Komodo UX principles
- Collaboration with product managers and application scientists
Key Insights
- Users rely on step-by-step mental validation during assays
- Clear system feedback builds more trust than advanced visuals
- Progressive disclosure works better than information-dense dashboards
- Consistency across steps reduces anxiety during high-stakes runs
The Breakthrough
The turning point was reframing the interface around real lab workflows, not feature groupings. Instead of asking users to adapt to the software, the software now adapts to how scientists think and work—guided by Komodo’s standards for clarity, accessibility, and consistency.
